Twenty blog posts that is… could you do it?
How fit is your blog? If you feel like you have been a bit of a slacker when updating your blog recently and you have failed to keep it in good shape, it’s time to get back in the game. If you need to tone up your blog so that it will look lean and toned, here are some tips for getting your flabby blog into shape. Welcome to blog writing boot camp!
Make a Goal
Getting into shape is a lot easier when you have a clearly defined goal and the same goes for when you are taking your blog from flabby to fit. It’s time to define exactly what you want your blog to be and what achievements you will be working towards. Do you want to bench press more heavy traffic from Google or sustain the long term endurance of a weekly posting schedule? In what way do you want to challenge yourself to accomplish more? Setting a goal will help you determine what needs improving on your blog so that you can focus your efforts.
Trim the Excess Flab
Take a good hard look at your blog and be honest with yourself. Are there some blog posts or piece of web copy that are merely taking up space and are just adding flab to your website? Go through your website and edit out anything that you don’t think is well written, strong, exciting, entertaining or engaging. This content is unnecessary and it is only slowing you down. When you trim away the excess flab the excellent parts of your blog will be placed in the spotlight and you will be able to show them off.
Get Into a Routine
It’s not enough to get really excited about your blog one afternoon and work on it for a few hours, only to forget about it for two weeks afterwards. During that slack period, you will lose readers, social media channels will lose interest and your blog will be drained of all valuable momentum.
In order to see results, you will need to commit yourself to a blogging routine, just like you would commit to visiting the gym three times a week to get in shape. You need to find a schedule that works for you so that you will stick to your goals and keep maintaining your blog.
Stick To It
Blogging is hard work, but stick to your goals! There will be some days when you are tired and uninspired, but it is important not to give up on your blog. You might need to warm up your brain with some mental stretches or look to others for ideas and motivation, but as long as you keep writing you will keep your blog strong and healthy.
In order to keep your loyal readers updated with fresh material you should aim to update your blog at least two to three times per week. They don’t all have to be long or complicated blog posts; you can alternate between longer posts and short updates. The trick is to keep at and publish content frequently. Just like a workout routine it will be difficult to get accustomed to in the beginning, but if you stick with it then it will become a habit.
When you stick to your blogging goals and always challenge yourself to improve a little bit more each day, you will be amazed by how powerful your blog can become in just a short time. Go on, what are you waiting for?
